Description

Located in the suburb of Ultimo in the City of Sydney, The Goods Line is an 800 m-long (2,625 ft) linear park, shared by pedestrian pathway and cycleway.

This urban place connects Railway Square to Darling Harbour, passing by prominent sites, including the University of Technology Sydney Broadway campus and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Sydney head office. The Goods Line terminates in the north at the corner of Sussex and Hay Streets, in the heart of Sydney's central business district. The park provides a unique experience extending from Central Station to the Powerhouse Museum, providing plenty of opportunities for recreation, entertainment, and study.

The Goods Line offers a fun and revitalizing experience for visitors using the path of a historic freight railway line. The railway line opened in 1855 to connect Sydney Yard and the Sydney – Parramatta railway line to the shipping port of Darling Harbour. This added a new mode of transportation for trains to access Darling Harbour without interrupting passenger trains. The path of The Goods Line was the section of the disused railway converted into a pedestrian walkway initially known as the Ultimo Pedestrian Network until it was renamed The Goods Line in 2012.

ASPECT Studios and CHROFI designed the Goods Line corridor, taking inspiration from rail transport while accommodating the needs of a shared pathway. This urban park incorporates grassy lawns, dining tables, table tennis tables, study pods, and a children's water play area featuring a sandpit. Many railway artifacts have been preserved, including the Ultimo Road Railway underbridge built
