Description
Located in the Davenport Range, about 1,033 kilometres (642 mi) south-east of Darwin, lies the Iytwelepenty / Davenport Ranges National Park.
This natural haven, previously known as the Davenport Murchison National Park, covers around 1,120 km2 (430 sq mi) and boasts breathtaking landscapes that will leave visitors in awe. The national park lies within the Davenport Murchison Ranges bioregion, an area of 58,050 km2 (22,410 sq mi), and features a climate ranging from semiarid to subtropical.
The mountains within the park were formed from tectonic activity hundreds of millions of years ago. One of the highlights of the Davenport Ranges National Park is the Amelia Creek crater, an ancient eroded impact crater that lies within the Davenport Range. This unique geological feature is a testament to the park's fascinating history and will leave visitors in awe.
The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife that visitors can observe in their natural habitat. Kangaroos, wallabies, and echidnas are some of the common species visitors can spot, along with a wide variety of birds that are drawn to the area due to the various habitats dotted throughout the park.
Visitors can explore the park on foot or by car along the various hiking trails and tracks. The park is known for its stunning landscapes and geological formations, and visitors are encouraged to bring their camera to capture the awe-inspiring scenery.
