Description

Welcome to Pelorus Island, also known as North Palm Island! It is the furthest northern island of the Great Palm Island group, located 800 metres north of Orpheus Island.

Pelorus Island is relatively small, covering an area of about 400 hectares or 990 acres.

Before European settlement, Orpheus Island was home to the Aboriginal people. The island was named after the HMS Pelorus, which served as the flagship on the Australia Station from 1860 to 1862.

In 2017, the Morris family, owners of the Northern Escape Collection and led by business mogul Chris Morris of Computershare, purchased Pelorus Island. On behalf of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Multiplex designed and constructed a navigation structure and helipad to service the structure.

Pelorus Island is surrounded by breathtaking fringing reefs that are easily accessible by snorkelling right off the beach. The island is managed by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council, and the fragile environment is protected by both state and federal environmental provisions.

While permission from Parks Australia is not needed for camping on Pelorus Island, there are no facilities or freshwater available on the island. Visitors must bring all provisions for their stay. Be sure to practice responsible camping and adhere to environmental guidelines to protect the island's ecosystem.

Come to Pelorus Island to experience the beauty and serenity of a tropical paradise.
