Description

Tunkalilla Beach is a scenic and hazardous beach with moderate to occasionally high waves.

It is situated in Tunkalilla and is known for its scenic views. The beach is publicly accessible, and there is a car park available on the bluffs above the western end of the beach.

The beach itself is straight with a low fore dune and wave over wash deposits. The surf zone is about 60 meters wide on average and is cut by beach rips every 250 meters in the west. There are also reef controlled rips located to the east. It has moderate to occasionally high waves, strong permanent rips, and a prevalence of rocks and reef. This can make swimming dangerous, so visitors are advised to exercise caution when entering the water. It is important to note that the beach is hazardous, and visitors should not underestimate the conditions.

Despite the hazards, Tunkalilla Beach remains a popular spot for fishing. Many fishers are willing to tackle the steep walk back to the car park in order to cast their lines in the area. For those who prefer to simply admire the scenic views, there are several pocket beaches bounded and backed by steep grassy slopes that can be explored.

Tunkalilla Beach is open year-round, but it is recommended that visitors check the weather forecast before heading there. The waves can become dangerously high, making it unsuitable for swimming.
