The lake is a popular destination for kayaking and canoeing, with clear waters, lush forests, and natural islets that are home to a variety of wildlife.

There are two launch points for kayaks and canoes: the boat ramp on Nelson Parade and O'Brien's Boatshed, which also offers equipment for hire. Paddlers have multiple route options, including an 18-kilometer round trip to Horse Island and the Borang Lake estuary, or a two-hour paddle around Cambathin Island and Deuaumba Island.

Throughout the journey, kayakers can spot sea eagles and other seabirds, and the area is perfect for picnics with waterfront cafes and restaurants nearby. There are also amenities such as picnic tables, public toilets, and a playground for family outings.

Tuross Lake is ideal for kayaking year-round, with spring offering mild weather and gentle winds, summer providing warmer temperatures and calm waters in the morning, and autumn showcasing beautiful foliage colors.

To reach Tuross Lake, visitors can follow signs to Tuross Head from the Princes Highway and then onto Nelson Parade. It is approximately a three-hour drive from Sydney and a two-hour drive from Canberra.
