Description

Located just a short distance away from the bustling Byron Bay township, Tyagarah Nature Reserve provides a secluded and peaceful haven for visitors.

The reserve stretches for seven kilometres along the coastline, providing a wonderful view of the coastal heath to visitors.

The reserve's unspoilt beach offers plenty of opportunities for visitors to explore and make memories. From catching the waves, taking a stroll by the water, building sandcastles with kids, to casting a line for some fishing, there is something for everyone. Visitors can also take a walk on the bushwalking tracks behind the dunes and explore the beautiful natural landscape. Self-reliant bushwalkers will especially enjoy the area.

In spring, whale-watchers gather on the beach to catch a glimpse of the humpback whale mothers and their new calves passing by on their way home from the Great Barrier Reef to Antarctica. The stunning sight is truly an impressive display of nature's wonders and should not be missed.

The reserve also provides a relaxing picnic area where visitors can unwind and enjoy the serene environment. A clothing-optional beach, designated by the Byron Shire Council, is located adjacent to the reserve, south of the picnic area at the end of Grays Lane.

The reserve is open all year round, and visitors can enjoy its beauty at any time of the year. The reserve is easily accessible by car or public transport. Visitors can drive along the Pacific Highway, turning off at Tyagarah Road until they reach Grays Lane. It is about a 15-minute drive from Byron Bay township. Alternatively, visitors can take a bus from Byron Bay, which makes a stop near the entrance to the reserve
