Bournda National Park

Bournda National Park is a beautiful protected area located in New South Wales, Australia.

It covers a total of 2,655 hectares and was established on April 24, 1992. Managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, it plays a crucial role in the preservation of swift parrots and is part of the Ulladulla to Merimbula Important Bird Area.

Situated near Tathra, approximately 343 kilometres south of Sydney, Bournda National Park stretches for about 13 kilometres along the coast. Visitors can enjoy a fantastic walk along its length, starting from Kianinny Bay on the southern side of Tathra.

The park features three significant bodies of water, each with unique ecological features. Wallagoot Lake is a vast saltwater lake that connected to the ocean in June 2008. Bondi Lake, the closest freshwater lake to the ocean in the area, holds essential environmental significance. Bournda Lagoon is a brackish lagoon, comprising half saltwater and half freshwater, and is periodically open to the ocean. The park also offers camping facilities at the Hobart Beach Campground, providing an ideal stay in this picturesque location.

Bournda National Park was once a State Recreation Area and became a National Park in 1992. It adjoins the Bournda Nature Reserve, established in 1972, which covers an area of 6,088 hectares. Both regions are managed under the plan by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
