Description

Breadknife and Grand High Tops walk is a challenging trek in Warrumbungle National Park, New South Wales.

It offers breathtaking panoramic scenery and close encounters with magnificent geological formations. The 14.5-kilometre loop walk takes approximately 8 hours to complete.

The walk begins at Pincham carpark and follows Spirey Creek before climbing steeply towards Balor Hut campground. Along the way, walkers will pass impressive geological formations. After a rest at Balor Hut campground, continue towards Grand High Tops summit for a breathtaking view. From there, continue towards Western High Tops and Ogma Gap campground, passing Dows Camp on the way. To complete the loop, walkers follow the West Spirey track back to Pincham carpark.

For a shorter and less challenging trek, walkers can take the 12.5-kilometre return to Pincham carpark via Dagda Shortcut. This alternative trek takes approximately 6 hours to complete and has fewer challenges than the main route.

In spring, walkers will be treated to a magnificent wildflower display. The landscapes and scenery are particularly stunning during this time, with purple hoveas, white daisy bushes, yellow wattles, and orange pea flowers.

The best time to visit Breadknife and Grand High Tops walk is between March and October. The weather is cooler, and the wildflowers are in full bloom during this time. Summer temperatures can reach up to 40°C, making it challenging for some walkers to complete the trek.
