Description
Lockwood Vineyard is a family run, boutique style wine producer, located in the heart of the Hilltops Region.
Lockwood Wines are made from grapes grown at Lockwood Vineyard, located 5km north of Young, NSW. (Central NSW - Approximately 2 hours from Canberra and Wagga Wagga.)
The Vines are planted on 10 acres of north facing, sloping terrain in deep red clay, loamy soil. This soil and the Hilltops climate provide ideal growing conditions for quality grapes and wonderful wines.
The first block of Lockwood Cab Sav vines was planted in 1996 with additional blocks in 1998 and 2000. 2004 saw Chardonnay, Viognier and Shiraz being planted, followed by Sav Blac, Pino Gris and Tempranillo in subsequent years. The majority of the 5000 vines are Cab Sav.
The grapes for Lockwood Wines are hand picked and processed in small batches by traditional European methods, including the use of a small crusher/ destemmer and basket press. In 2004, Lockwood produced the first vintage of Cab Sav while the first Shiraz and Chardonnay were produced in 2007.
Lockwood now produce a wide range of boutique wines which includes Chardonnay, Viognier, Shiraz-Viognier, Viognier, Shiraz, Cab Sav, Sav Blac, Pinot Gris, Tempranillo, Shiraz-Cabernet, 'Blush' as well as a Cherry Liqueur and Apricot Liqueur and Cherry Wine.
