Baigup Wetland

Tourist attractions

Description

Take a walk in a wetland and discover all kinds of waterbirds.

Baigup Wetland is located just seven kilometres east of Perth’s business district. The reserve is a roughly 200 metre wide crescent of Swan River flood plain. The wetland is a very important feeding area for birds in the middle and lower reaches of the Swan River. Two constructed lakes provide perennial habitat for waterbirds.

The Noongar word 'baigup' is historically attested as meaning 'rushes' or, more probably according to Noongars today, 'place of rushes'.

There is one main sealed path running through the middle of the reserve. There are also picnic areas, seating and public toilets.

This site is managed by the City of Bayswater. For more information visit the City of Bayswater, or alternatively see TrailsWA Baigup Wetland.
