Description

Bald Rock National Park is a must-see location in northern New South Wales, Australia.

It is named after its most prominent feature, Bald Rock, which is the largest granite monolith in Australia, rising about 200 metres above the surrounding landscape.

The park is accessible via a sealed road, and visitors can access the rock by hiking trails. There are two tracks available, one with a steep ascent up the exposed face and another with a gentler gradient through bushland. The Bungoona Walking Track, built in 1980, winds through forests and passes through granite boulder formations, including an arch covered in mosses, ferns, and orchids.

The summit of Bald Rock offers panoramic views of the surrounding bushland, including mountains such as Mount Barney, Mount Lindesay, and Flinders Peak. While the vegetation on top limits a full 360° view, it is still a breathtaking experience.

The park is located in the New England granite belt and features many exposed inselbergs of granite rocks, some forming natural arches or balancing on top of each other. The regolith created by the granite rocks has left fascinating boulder formations throughout the park.

Visitors to Bald Rock National Park can also explore Thunderbolt's Hideout, a set of caves and overhanging granite rocks that were reportedly used by bushranger Captain Thunderbolt. Additionally, there are historic World War II tank traps along the same route.

In conclusion, Bald Rock National Park offers a range of attractions and activities, including hiking, stunning views, unique rock formations, and historical landmarks.
