Banjo Paterson Park Yass is a beautifully maintained public park in Yass, New South Wales, Australia.
It was established in 1944 as Central Park and later renamed in 1948 to honor the famous Australian writer and poet, Banjo Paterson.
Banjo Paterson was a notable Australian bush poet, journalist, and author. He wrote extensively about the Australian way of life, particularly focusing on rural communities and the outback regions. The park features a replica bust of Banjo Paterson, who spent his early years in the Yass district. The original bronze sculpture by Mrs. Folks is now housed at the Yass Valley Information Centre.
In addition to the bust, the park offers a playground, picnic tables, barbecue facilities, and a large grassy area for visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery. There is also a tranquil pond where visitors can fish and feed the ducks.
Banjo Paterson Park Yass is open seven days a week and can be accessed at any time during the day. The best time to visit is during the warmer months from October to March. The park is easily accessible by car, bus, or train, just a few minutes' drive from the town center.
It is a great place for a picnic, a family day out, or simply to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Interpretive signage provides additional information about Banjo Paterson's life and works, making it an educational experience for visitors.
