The Raurimu Spiral is a single-track railway spiral that overcomes a 139-meter height difference, and it is considered an "engineering masterpiece". The spiral is part of the North Island Main Trunk railway, which connects Wellington and Auckland. The Northern Explorer train rides through the Raurimu Spiral, and guests of Blue Duck Station can witness it navigating the spiral.

Blue Duck Station is a working farm that offers various accommodation options, including cabins, lodges, and campsites.
