Bombala Platypus Reserve is a must-visit destination for platypus lovers.
Located 4.2 kilometers from Bombala on the Delegate Road, this reserve is home to a high number of platypuses, making it an ideal place to experience and learn more about these unique mammals.
To have the best chance of seeing platypuses, visitors are encouraged to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon. From the raised platform at the reserve, you can observe the platypuses' unique V-shaped pattern. It's important to be quiet during viewing as platypuses are easily spooked and can stay underwater for up to 14 minutes.
The reserve provides on-site information boards for those who want to learn more about platypuses. Newly installed walkways make exploring the reserve enjoyable for people of all ages. Additionally, visitors can have lunch at the reserve using the provided picnic tables. There are also two bird hides for observing the abundant birdlife.
The Bombala Platypus Reserve is open all year round. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to see the platypuses, but even during the daytime, visitors can still enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
To reach the reserve, the easiest way is by car. Head to Bombala and take the Delegate Road for 4.2 kilometers. The reserve is easily accessible and clearly signposted, making it easy to find for first-time visitors.
