Boomanjin lake

Lake Boomanjin, situated in the Great Sandy National Park on Fraser Island, is the largest perched lake in the world, spanning across 200 hectares.

Its reddish-brown hued waters are a result of the organic matter and tannin carried in from the surrounding small creeks and Tea Trees. The lake's size can accommodate multiple visitors at once, providing a peaceful and tranquil environment to relax and soak in the beauty of nature.

Lake Boomanjin offers a unique experience to visitors with its peculiar coloured waters and surrounding beauty. There are many activities to engage in while at the lake. Visitors can snap some photographs of the unique and mesmerizing scenery. The lake is safe for swimming with its perfect depth of 5 meters, and the soft sands and calm waters create an ideal environment to unwind and relax. Birdwatchers can catch a glimpse of some of Australia's beautiful birdlife, and paddleboarding provides a great workout and a stunning view of the surrounding landscapes.

Lake Boomanjin is open all year round, making it the perfect spot for a day trip or an extended stay. Visitors can access the lake by taking the Mantaray Ferry from Inskip Point or the Kingfisher Bay Ferry from River Heads. Once off the ferry, visitors can access the lake by turning right onto 75 Mile Beach Road and taking the Dilli Village exit (Dillinghams Road). Camping is one of the most iconic ways to experience nature, and the lake has its own camping area situated in open tall forests. Facilities include flushing toilets, tent sites, picnic tables, and washing-up facilities.
