Description

Box Head Trail is a 4.3 km loop trail in Killcare, New South Wales.

It is moderately challenging and offers coastal views. Popular activities include birding, camping, hiking, rock climbing, walking, and beach exploration. Dogs are not allowed, and caution is advised on slippery rocks.

The trail provides beautiful coastal views of Killcare, the Hawkesbury River, Barrenjoey Headland, and the Northern beaches of Sydney. There are several lookouts along Box Head, offering fantastic views of the coastline. Tallow Beach and Little Tallow Beach are also accessible from the trail. Wildlife, wildflowers, and views of Lion Island and Barrenjoey Lighthouse can be enjoyed along the way.

The best time to visit is during spring and summer for wildflowers and warmer weather. Check the weather forecast and avoid heavy rain or storms.

To reach the trail, take Killcare Heights Road, which is a bit secluded. It is a two-hour drive from Sydney, and parking is available in the residential area. A 4WD is preferred for the rough roads leading to the parking lot.

Novice walkers, those with mobility issues, small children, and dogs are not recommended on this trail. Wear appropriate shoes and bring water. Follow the markings to stay on the trail, especially in areas where it is not well marked. Be cautious if going beyond the "No track beyond this point" sign. Following these safety measures will ensure a fully enjoyable experience on the Box Head Trail.
