Description

Explore the history and rich ecosystems of the Wattle Flat Heritage lands on the Buurree Walking Trail.

This trail is marked by a series of yellow triangles that denote the circular track, which provides a leisurely 2-hour walk through open woodland bush close to the gold mining township of Wattle Flat.

As you go uphill to a ridgeline with lovely views towards Sofala and the Turon Valley, the walk provides visitors with a chance to view some of the unique fauna and flora in the area. The Buurree Walking Trail is also a great spot to go bird watching, with good quality Box Gum woodland and Yellow and White Box Trees providing a habitat for native birds. The trail passes by a small central dam that attracts various migratory species. Children can enjoy the walk by spotting the yellow markers scattered around the trail. The walk can be combined with a wander around the Wattle Flat township where some of the buildings date back to the 1860s. During these seasons, the weather is mild and comfortable for walking, and the flowers are in bloom, which enhance the beauty of the views.

The Buurree Walking Trail is situated in the Wattle Flat Heritage Lands North, near the gold mining township of Wattle Flat. The trailhead is approximately 3km outside of Wattle Flat township. Visitors can reach Wattle Flat by driving for around 3 hours from Sydney, or around 1.5 hours from Bathurst. There is a small car park available at the trailhead.
