Description
Cape Cleveland Lighthouse is an active and heritage-listed lighthouse located on Cape Cleveland, Queensland.
It was established in response to the development of Townsville as a major port. Designed by F.D.G. Stanley, the lighthouse features a unique Queensland style with a timber frame and non-structural iron plates. Over the years, it has undergone various changes, including the installation of a telephone line, conversion to an acetylene gas lamp, and the replacement of the lens. During World War II, it served as an observation post. Currently, the lighthouse operates with a flash every 7.5 seconds, displaying red and white colors. The site includes the lighthouse, two residences, and additional buildings. It is operated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and is not open to the public. Cape Cleveland Lighthouse was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register on November 9, 1998.
