Cape Pallarenda Conservation Park

Cape Pallarenda Conservation Park is a protected park located in the suburb of Pallarenda, 10 kilometers north-east of Townsville in Queensland, Australia.

Spanning 44 hectares, the park offers visitors a peaceful retreat with scenic tracks and beaches, as well as a chance to connect with history.

The park features several scenic walking trails, including one that leads to Shelley Beach. Along the way, visitors can explore two World War II searchlight emplacements and learn about the tragic history of the Cape Pallarenda Quarantine Station, where 13 Vietnamese immigrants lost their lives to meningitis in 1920. The recreational area in the park includes a boat ramp and a stinger enclosure for swimming.

Cape Pallarenda has a rich history, dating back to its naming in 1864 by Lieutenant George Poynter Heath. During World War II, the park was transformed into a military hospital, with the installation of the 2/14 Army General Hospital. Many casualties from New Guinea were received here. Local residents have strongly opposed this proposal.
