Description

China Wall is a unique dive site on Moreton Island's eastern side.

It stands out because it is dominated by brown kelp, a feature not commonly found in the area. Surrounding the kelp beds are tropical fish, creating an unusual and beautiful sight. The site also has rocky terrain adorned with soft corals, gorgonians, and black coral trees.

At China Wall Dive Site, divers can explore caves, gutters, walls, and a rock arch, providing opportunities to discover the local marine life. Reef fish, bullseyes, yellowtail, trevally, kingfish, blue gropers, wobbegongs, and turtles are commonly encountered while exploring the kelp beds. Humpback whales can also be spotted during the winter season.

Winter is the optimal season for diving at China Wall due to calm weather conditions and the presence of grey nurse sharks and humpback whales. Diving is possible throughout the year, but the summer months can be less predictable.

To reach China Wall Dive Site, visitors can take a two-hour ferry ride from Brisbane to Moreton Island's Eastern side. Ferries depart from Holt Street Wharf in Pinkenba or the Port of Brisbane. Moreton Island has various operators offering boat tours, snorkeling, diving trips, and hikes, allowing visitors to explore the island and its attractions, including China Wall Dive Site.
