Clark Estate: A Stunning Family Vineyard in Marlborough
Clark Estate is a boutique family vineyard located in the Awatere Valley, one of the four wine regions of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail.
The vineyard produces beautifully crafted wines, especially known for their unique Sauvignon Blanc variety, from high up in the rugged Upper Awatere valley. Established in 1998 by Peter and Jane Clark, the vineyard is a trophy-winning, organic and sustainable vineyard that has achieved Sustainable Wine Growing New Zealand accreditation.
Enjoying the vineyard
Clark Estate vineyard is a perfect location for a laid-back and elegant wine-tasting experience. The family welcomes visitors to take their time tasting the unique wines while enjoying the breath-taking views of the stunning vineyard. The winery also has a spacious deck that overlooks the vines, where visitors can relax with a glass of wine and some fantastic local cheese.
The vineyard also offers wine tours, where you can take a guided walk around the winery, learn about the winemaking process, and explore the vineyard's stunning surroundings. Visitors can also indulge in a picnic by their dam, which is the perfect spot to relax and take in the serene surroundings of the vineyard.
When to visit
The vineyard is open for tasting seven days a week, although it is best to contact them beforehand to ensure that they are open. The ideal time to visit is between August and April, the warm, sunny weather being perfect for exploring the vineyards.
Getting to Clark Estate
Clark Estate vineyard is located about 30 km south of Blenheim and can take around 40 minutes to drive there. You can hire a car from Blenheim, or if you don't want to drive, local tour companies offer tours to the winery. From Blenheim, take State Highway 1 South. Turn left on to Blind River Loop road, and you will find Clark Estate roughly five kilometers down the road. The entrance to the winery is well signposted, making it easy to find.
