Description

Located in Coolmunda, Goondiwindi Region, Queensland, Australia, the Coolmunda Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam built across the Macintrye Brook.

It also receives water from Bracker Creek and Sandy Creek. The reservoir created by the dam, Lake Coolmunda, has a maximum depth of 16.1 meters and a surface area of 1,650 hectares.

The main purposes of the dam are for potable water supply and irrigation. Completed in 1968, the dam wall is 18.6 meters high and 2,286 meters long, with a capacity of 69,090 megalitres. It has a controlled spillway with radial gates and is managed by SunWater.

Coolmunda Dam offers recreational activities such as picnicking, boating, fishing, and camping. There is a boat ramp, three picnic areas, and a caravan park. Camping is allowed along the northern bank of the lake, and there is a free bush camping area nearby. Boating is unrestricted, and the lake's timber standing provides excellent fishing spots. The lake is stocked with golden perch, murray cod, silver perch, eel-tailed catfish, and spangled perch. An impoundment permit is required for fishing in the dam.
