Description
Step into a home where small spaces meet grand ideas at On Location 13: Burt Street.
Homeowners and architects, Gian Tonossi & Kate Moore, had the vision to peel back the layers of this 1890’s cottage to celebrate its heritage and imperfections. Gian and Kate have carefully preserved the original features of the house, uncovering its former life through layers of paint and weathered materials that have been purposely left exposed.
Constructed from limestone sourced from the former quarry on which it sits, this semi-detached cottage now proudly shares its past stories in a new light, providing a colourful backdrop for the current custodians of the house.
A new vertical volume, anchored by a generous dining table forms the new heart of the home. Despite its challenging south-west orientation, the house boasts a sunny, wind-protected courtyard with the addition of an outbuilding that provides multiple functions from bike storage to wind break.
Burt Street is a lesson in storytelling, showcasing the idea that imperfections are not flaws but rather stories waiting to be told.
Join DesignFreo On Location: Burt Street for an exclusive tour of the home and conversation with the homeowners and architects on Saturday 23 March. Visit the website for tickets and more information.
