Description

The Eleanor Schonell Bridge, also known as the Green Bridge, is Australia's third-largest cable-stayed bridge.

It connects the suburbs of Dutton Park and St Lucia, crossing the Brisbane River. The bridge supports a two-lane bus corridor, a cyclist corridor, and a pedestrian corridor. The length of the bridge, including the approaching roads, is approximately 390 meters.

The Eleanor Schonell Bridge is a public and active transport-only bridge, encouraging environmentally friendly transport. It provides access for buses, bikes, and pedestrians. The bridge was built to improve accessibility to the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus and offers a view of the Brisbane River with parks, eateries, and walking trails on either side.

The bridge is open 24/7 for public use.

To reach the Eleanor Schonell Bridge, it is approximately 4.6 km from Brisbane's city centre. You can get there by car, bike, or foot. There is no parking on the bridge, but you can park in Dutton Park or St Lucia and walk to the bridge. Public transport options such as buses, trains, and ferries are also available.

The bridge was constructed using the balanced cantilever method, with progressive erection and stressing of stay cables. The main cable-stayed bridge consists of a 183-meter main span, accommodating two lanes of traffic and two sidewalks. Two planes of stay cables support the superstructure, with two independent towers at either end.

The Eleanor Schonell Bridge incorporates sustainability elements into its design, including solar panels for pedestrian lighting and a water treatment system. Durability assurance was also provided to ensure a 100-year design life.
