Discover the beauty of K'gari Island with the Fraser Island Great Walk.

This long-distance walking track offers hikers a chance to explore the natural wonders of K'gari, Queensland, Australia. The trail is mostly at sea level and rated as an easy to moderate hike. Hikers should be fully self-sufficient and carry sufficient water.

Covering a distance of 90 km, the Fraser Island Great Walk is a journey spread over six to eight days. The track is traversed in one direction, starting from Dilli Village, an environmental education camp of the University of the Sunshine Coast, to Happy Valley. Numerous smaller walks branch off the main trail, adding to the experience.

Throughout the trek, hikers will encounter various unique landscapes, including coastal heathland, mangrove forest, woodland, and subtropical rainforest. The trail's highlights are the crystal-clear lakes and sand dunes, offering stunning views of the island's varied ecosystems.

Fraser Island Great Walk offers eight walkers' camps for which booking is essential. Hikers can connect with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) to book their wilderness adventure.

In 2010, volunteers developed a 40 km extension to the walk from Lake Garawongera to Arch Cliffs, increasing the trail's length to 90 km. Do keep in mind that it is best not to hike this trail from January to March due to the rainy season. Experience nature at its best with Fraser Island Great Walk.
