Description
French Peak Wines is a boutique winery located in the heart of the Banks Peninsula.
Situated in the ancient, extinct volcano's center and on the banks of the Akaroa Harbour, the winery produces unique wines influenced by the volcanic soil. The winery produces popular grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris. French Peak Wines is one of the oldest vineyards in the region, and the team has been using organic practices for years.
What You Can See and Do
Visitors can enjoy the winery's unique wines at the cellar door, located on the landscaped vineyard grounds of French Farm. A lovely, traditional wooden barn hosts the self-contained attic, making it perfect for guests to stay in for a romantic getaway. It's an ideal spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy the winery's wines. In addition to tasting the wines, the region's natural beauty is perfect for a leisurely stroll. French Peak Wines' location in the Banks Peninsula makes it an ideal starting point for experiencing the region's dramatic landscape, the microclimate and challenging weather that make the wines produced there unique.
When You Should Go
The cellar door is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 12 pm to 5 pm, and bookings are recommended before your visit. The South Island's weather can be unpredictable, and we recommend visiting during the summer months to ensure you'll experience the region's best weather.
How to Get There
French Peak Wines is located less than an hour's drive from Christchurch and 15 minutes from Akaroa, a popular resort town. You can hire a car, take a taxi or use a chartered bus for transport to help you get there. Plan your route before heading out, taking the scenic drive down the Banks Peninsula, so you don't miss any breathtaking sights.
