Hamersley Inlet

Hamersley Inlet Hopetoun is a beautiful spot that's home to a diverse range of flora and fauna.

The area is part of the Fitzgerald River National Park and is situated in a deep valley, carved through the hard schist and quartzite rocks of the coastal headlands and ranges.

The eucalypt woodlands and paperbark thickets that fringe the inlet are filled with songbirds. You'll encounter a variety of bird species on your visit, including black swans and other waterbirds who gather here in large numbers. The inlet stretches about seven kilometres from the sandbar at its mouth to a rock bar in the narrow river valley at its northern end. Common species that thrive in the inlet are black bream, spotted minnow or Swan River goby. Exploring the inlet on foot or by kayak is an ideal way of seeing the plethora of wildlife that this area has to offer.

Hamersley Inlet offers visitors a range of activities, including camping, bushwalking, boating, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, and overnight hiking. A walk to Hamersley Beach from the inlet picnic area will take you on a 2.2km return journey, and is highly recommended. Whether you prefer to relax and take in the scenery or be more active, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Hamersley Inlet is open year-round, but visitors should plan when to visit carefully. Coast and cliff risks are significant in this park, so visitors should check weather conditions before setting out on any walks.

To access Hamersley Inlet, head to the Hamersley Inlet picnic area and campground, located at the end of Hamersley Drive on the inlet's eastern shores. There
