Description
Hawker Beach in Mount Martha is a quiet and serene beach spot.
It is located on a quiet section of shoreline and is about 600 meters long. The beach has clear water and golden sand, and is nestled beneath steep local sandstone bluffs. It faces west-northwest and is divided into two parts.
The beach is a haven for water activities such as swimming and snorkeling. It is moderately safe when the waves are low, but caution should be taken due to variable water depth caused by bars, channels, and rip holes. The beach becomes more rocky underfoot when in the water. While the rips are inactive under low waves, there are strong currents, so extra caution is necessary.
Hawker Beach is a 24/7 year-round dog-friendly leash-free beach. It is a great place to take your furry friends for a walk or a swim.
The northern end of the beach is easily accessible via a wide steep path opposite Helena Street. There are a few beach boxes at the northern end behind a seawall that links Hawker Beach to Craigie Beach. Parking is limited, and there are signs indicating the trails down to the beach. The Esplanade parallels the shore on top of the bluffs, while more beach boxes dot the southern end. The southern end can be accessed just north of Augusta Street via a narrow steep path with many steps.
Hawker Beach is a great place to visit year-round. It is relatively quiet throughout the year, allowing visitors to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere without worrying about crowds. If you're looking for a quiet, serene, and beautiful spot to spend some time in the sun, Hawker Beach Mount Martha is the perfect place to visit.
