Description

Idalia National Park is a protected area located in the South West region of Queensland, Australia.

Covering 144,000 hectares, the park plays a crucial role in preserving the country's distinct flora and fauna. It was inaugurated in 1990 and is situated near the town of Blackall in the Queensland outback.

The park is home to various native animal species, including wallaroos, kangaroos, wallabies, and the endangered bridled nailtail wallaby. It also boasts different vegetation types such as open woodland, heathland, and shrubland.

In addition to its natural wonders, the park contains many Aboriginal heritage sites, including stone arrangements, artefact scatters, and camp sites. Visitors can explore and learn about the rich history and culture of the Aboriginal people.

The ruins of two historic homesteads, Idalia and Collabara, can be found within the park. These sites offer a glimpse into the region's history and add to its cultural significance.

While there are no accommodations available within the national park, camping is allowed at designated campsites. Visitors should bring their own camping gear and note that amenities are limited.

Access to Idalia National Park is only possible via four-wheel drive. It is important to carry an emergency satellite phone, as there is no mobile phone coverage in the park. Visitors should also prepare a first-aid kit, plenty of water, and all necessary supplies before embarking on the off-road journey.

Idalia National Park, with its unique flora and fauna, historical sites, and cultural significance, is a must-visit destination in the Queensland outback.
