Description

Jingamia Cave is a unique natural feature located in Watheroo National Park.

It is surrounded by an outcropping of chert and other types of rock that were formed between 2.5 billion and 542 million years ago. This geological formation, known as Noondine Chert, is significant in the region because of the unique plants that grow only in association with chert. The formation also influences an aquifer that supplies groundwater to local towns and is a source of mineral silica.

Jingamia Cave and the Noondine Chert are located in Yued country, and the Yued People are the Traditional Custodians of this land. The Yued are a dialect group of the Noongar Aboriginal people of southwestern Western Australia who have been living and caring for the country for over 40,000 years.

The walk to Jingamia Cave is about 150 meters and is suitable for most ages and fitness levels. The trail offers views of the stunning landscape and leads to a cliff face that provides sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors are advised to tread carefully and wear sturdy footwear.

Watheroo National Park is famous for its abundance of wildflowers, and the best time to visit is between late July and early November when the wildflowers are in full bloom. Jingamia Cave is located in Watheroo National Park, approximately 220 kilometers north of Perth, Western Australia. Visitors can drive to the park using the Great Northern Highway and follow the directional signs to the park's entrance. It is important to carry plenty of drinking water, wear sun protection, and take rubbish home.
