Description

Welcome to Kings Plains National Park, located 48 km from Inverell, 50 km from Glen Innes, and 478 km north of Sydney.

Established in January 1988, the park was designated to preserve the range of wild animals, plants, and Kings Plains creek with its fantastic water features.

In 1988, Kings Plains was declared a national park to protect its various wild animals, plants, and the Kings Plains creek. The land consists mainly of sandy soils covered in shrubs, while the soil around the creek is richer in nutrients.

The woodland in Kings Plains National Park is home to a variety of plants, such as iron-barks, cypress pine, yellow box, stringy-barks, eucalyptus trees, and apple box. The shrubs are equally diverse and contain rare species such as the grey guinea flower, folded leaf waxflower, and Rodd's star-hair. In spring, the park's wildflowers bloom, creating a kaleidoscope of colors.

Kings Plains National Park is home to a wide variety of fauna, including eastern grey kangaroos, wallaroos, wallabies, and koalas. The rare brush-tail wallaby has also been observed in the park. Platypus inhabit the creek, but their habitat above the falls is considered fragile. The park has a recorded number of 82 bird species, including the eastern and crimson rosellas, king parrots, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, currawongs, wattle birds, and many species of honey
