Kokoda Track Memorial Walk

Tourist attractions

Kings Park, WA 6000

Description

The Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway in Western Australia is a peaceful tribute to the Australian troops who fought in the Papua-New Guinea campaign during World War II.

It recognizes their bravery and sacrifices.

The walkway is surrounded by lush tropical greenery, providing a contrast to the harsh conditions experienced by the soldiers. It begins at Kennedy Fountain and consists of 150 steep steps with plaques providing insights into Australian history.

Interpretive stations along the track offer a clear understanding of the Kokoda Track's importance during the war. The walk concludes at the State War Memorial, where visitors can find the Memorial Rose Garden for contemplation and reflection.

The best time to visit is during the cooler months of April to October. The walkway holds formal commemorative services for events like Anzac Day and Victory in the Pacific Day. Visitors can attend these events.

To reach the walkway, visitors can take the train to Rhodes Station and walk to the entrance or drive to the car park.

Entry is free, and the walkway is open to the public. The Ralph Honner Kokoda Education Centre is also housed there, and visitors can enjoy BBQ facilities or refreshments at the cafe when open.
