Description

Longneck Lagoon Walking Track Pitt Town is a four-kilometer track that winds along the banks of a small permanent freshwater wetland.

The walking trail offers visitors the chance to get closer to the area's diverse wildlife safely and respectfully. The walking track is an easy-grade trail with several vantage points to enjoy the views of the tranquil lagoon, and it's perfect for the whole family.

Longneck Lagoon Walking Track is a birdwatcher's paradise, attracting over 140 bird species, with at least 42 species of birds using the wetland regularly. Seven of these species are protected by international treaty. As you walk alongside the water, expect to see herons, egrets, ducks, grebes, spoonbills, and cormorants. Moreover, if you keep an eye on the undergrowth, some birds live down below in a thornbush native to the area. The park is surrounded by pleasant forest, and there are plenty of vantage points with views of the tranquil lagoon to have a picnic with your family or friends. The Education Centre illustrates the importance of Longneck Lagoon, but to extend your visit, head to the southern precinct of the park to explore Scheyville Camp precinct to learn about migrant heritage.

Longneck Lagoon Walking Track is a year-round attraction, but the best time to visit is from October to February when most birds come to Longneck Lagoon. It's essential to wear comfortable walking shoes and take water and snacks during the summer months, and a hat and sunscreen are advisable.
