Malanda Falls Swimming Pool is a beautiful and historic swimming pool located in the Malanda Falls Park in the Tablelands Region of Queensland, Australia.
The Falls have been a well-known local recreation area since the early 20th century and have become a popular tourist attraction since the 1920s. The Falls are situated on the North Johnstone River on the edge of the Malanda Falls Conservation Park, with dense rainforest providing a stunning backdrop.
Malanda Falls has been an important feature of the Cairns hinterland as a major tourist region in Queensland. It has been popular for local recreation for over a century and has been adapted to meet the needs of the local community and tourists alike. Malanda Falls was surveyed in 1906 when it was described as being "partly covered with water lilies, and jungle stretched to the edge of the pool, with lots of fallen trees [in the] water". The Falls became a popular venue for New Year's Day picnic day celebrations in the early 20th century. The Falls quickly became a popular venue for New Year's Day picnic day celebrations and by 1920 the Eacham Shire Council had erected a substantial wooden diving platform and signs warning against nude bathing.
The Malanda Falls Scenic Reserve is a picturesque reserve comprising the North Johnstone River flowing through dense rainforest and over the basalt rock of the falls into a man-made swimming pool. The long pool at its base is surrounded by concrete paths which provide easy and safe access to the pool and which allow visitors to cross the pool.
