Description
Maldon Dredge and Dragline is a historic site located in Porcupine Flat, Maldon, Australia.
It represents the phase of gold mining in Maldon when technology enabled large-scale reworking of earlier deposits. The dredge is a smaller reconstruction of the one that operated in Jim Crowe Creek from 1948 to 1954, while the dragline was brought from the Yallourn Coal Mine to assist in creating the dam.
Visitors can climb the dragline and explore the site, although some have reported that it is not well-maintained. Nevertheless, it is still considered a historic attraction and a good spot for taking photos.
The best time to visit Maldon Dredge and Dragline is during the warmer months from November to March. This is when the weather is more pleasant for outdoor activities. To get there, visitors can drive from Melbourne to Maldon, which takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Alternatively, they can take a train from Melbourne to Castlemaine and then a bus or taxi to Maldon.
Aside from visiting Maldon Dredge and Dragline, there are other attractions to explore in Maldon. These include the Beehive Mine Chimney, the Maldon Museum and Archives Association, and the Maldon Market.
