Description

Manton Dam Recreation Area, located approximately 70 kilometers south of Darwin, is a popular destination for day trips.

Initially constructed in 1942 to provide Darwin with a reliable water supply, Manton Dam is now a paradise for water sport enthusiasts and offers excellent fishing and picnicking opportunities in a picturesque landscape.

For water sport enthusiasts, Manton Dam is an excellent destination. Visitors can bring their jet skis, powerboats, and waterskis to enjoy the powerboat and waterski zone. By-laws are displayed at the boat ramp and ski beach, and it is important to be aware of all rules and regulations. Low-speed boaties can take it easy in the low-speed zone, but swimming is not recommended.

Those looking for a relaxed day out can pack a picnic and enjoy the many shady areas available. Tables and barbecues are conveniently located throughout the area, but visitors should bring their own wood for BBQs. Fishing enthusiasts can bring their rods and try their luck, while birdwatchers can spot woodland species along the shoreline. The area is also home to reptiles and mammals.

Manton Dam is a year-round destination, offering activities for all ages. The dry season from April to October is the best time to visit due to the beautiful weather, but visitors should come prepared with water and sunscreen. Visitors can reach Manton Dam by driving or taking a tour bus from Darwin.
