Description

Matangi Factory is a small village located in the Waikato District on the eastern border of Hamilton, New Zealand.

The village center has Matangi School, a garage, Four Square, takeaway and café, Matangi Hall, St David’s church, and Matangi recreation reserve. The natural vegetation in the area would have been mostly a mixed bush of totara, matai, rimu, kahikatea, titoki, tawa, and rewarewa, but virtually nothing remains of it.

For those interested in conservation and nature, Tiritiri Matangi Island, a bird sanctuary, is located nearby and is worth visiting. The island is home to one of the most successful community-based conservation projects in the world. Visitors can take a ferry from Auckland to the island and enjoy a guided tour of the island's wildlife and flora. For those interested in history, Te Iti o Haua marae, of Ngati Haua, Ngati Paretekawa, and Ngati Ngutu, is located 3 km (1.9 mi) east of Matangi on Tauwhare Rd. These original owners lost most of their land to confiscation or sales following the 1860s New Zealand wars.

Matangi Factory is also a great place for eco-friendly travelers. Visitors can take part in small eco-friendly activities that add up to make a big difference, such as hiking, bird watching, and supporting local businesses that prioritize sustainability. Overall, Matangi Factory is a great destination for those interested in conservation, nature, history, and eco-friendly travel. Visitors can enjoy the village's amenities, visit nearby Tiritiri Matangi Island, and learn about the area's rich history and culture.
