Description
Explore Meola Reef's geological and ecological wonders with expert guides. Discover marine life, its formation, and enjoy scenic views in Auckland, NZ's beautiful coastal setting.
Explore a unique tidal phenomenon by venturing off the beaten path. As we move away from the cityscape, you'll feel the wilderness vibe despite the skyline in sight. Our journey starts gently through a park, allowing for introductions, stories, and body warm-up. Upon reaching the reef, we go 'off-track,' weaving through mangroves and lava fields, navigating the mangrove maze for added fun.
Emerging into open oyster fields, we head for the final stretch. Here, on the reef, amidst the Waitemata Harbour, you'll discover contrasting wonders in Auckland, offering a getaway without leaving the city. This is Auckland's longest lava flow, originating from Te Kopuke / Mt. St. John volcano over 28,500 years ago. Covering 14 hectares, our exploration culminates on a two-kilometer tidal basalt reef in the Waitemata Harbour, revealing both geological history and natural beauty. It's a unique adventure that stretches your comfort zone and immerses you in Auckland's remarkable geological and ecological heritage.
