Morrinsville River Walk

Morrinsville River Walk is a scenic walk that follows the river along the rear of the Morrinsville Recreation Grounds.

The walk starts at the Avenue Road South entrance and is approximately 1.8 km one way. The walk features a stand of native Totara trees, which are identified as significant in the Matamata-Piako District Plan. These can be found near the track in the southeast corner of the recreation ground. The walk is great for the whole family, with loads to explore including a small waterfall.

The Morrinsville Recreation Ground is a perfect place to spread out a picnic blanket and relax after your walk. The recreation ground offers parking, a playground, picnic area, and summer swimming. The river walk is a special attraction that includes stands of native trees and a waterfall.

Morrinsville is a provincial town in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island, with an estimated population of 8,520 as of June 2022. The town is located at the northern base of the Pakaroa Range, and on the south-western fringe of the Hauraki Plains. Morrinsville is around 33 kilometres east of Hamilton and 22 kilometres west of Te Aroha. The town is bordered by the Piako River to the east and the Waitakaruru Stream to the south.

Historically, Morrinsville was the railway junction of the Auckland–Thames and Auckland–Rotorua lines, which subsequently became the Thames Branch and the East Coast Main Trunk Railway (Tauranga) lines. Morrinsville Railway Station was opened on 1 October 1884, to the east off Studholme Street, at the junction of the two lines. A footbridge over the track was opened in 1913, connecting the station with the town from the end of Canada Street.

In addition to the Morrinsville River Walk, visitors can also explore other attractions in Morrinsville. The Morrin Museum is a great place to inspect a 1870s pioneer cottage and learn about local history. The Wallace Gallery showcases works from local New Zealand artists. Visitors can also enjoy a leisurely walk along the Piako River, admire historic buildings along the Heritage Trail, or even take in a game of Golf at the Morrinsville Golf Club. The local Recreation Ground offers heated pools during the summer months, playgrounds, plenty of space to run around, and a pleasant river walk.
