Description

Mount Augustus, also known as Burringurrah, is a significant and large rock formation located in Mount Augustus National Park, Western Australia.

It has been a sacred site for thousands of years and holds cultural and spiritual importance to the local Wadjari people.

Contrary to popular belief, Mount Augustus is not the world's largest monolith but an asymmetrical anticline. It rises to 1,106 meters above sea level, nearly twice the size of Uluru.

The rock formation has a rich history, with evidence of early Aboriginal habitation depicted in the rock engravings around Mount Augustus. The area also experienced a gold rush in the 1890s due to its unique geology.

Mount Augustus is home to diverse flora and fauna, including red kangaroos, goannas, euros, and various bird species. The plant life is dominated by wattles, cassias, and eremophilas.

Visitors can explore the walking and hiking trails in the area, including two trails to reach the Mount Augustus summit. As you visit Mount Augustus, it is important to respect the cultural and historical significance of the site to the Wadjari people. Keep the area clean and appreciate the natural wonder while being mindful of its spiritual importance.
