Description
The Mt Cobbler Walking Track Wabonga is a 10-kilometer, grade-4 trail located in the Alpine National Park.
It takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete and is known for its rocky alpine summits and diverse flora and fauna. Visitors should be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.
The trail starts at the Lake Cobbler camping area and runs through a beautiful forest with native wildlife. Hikers will encounter a wet gully before ascending to an open snow plain. The climb can be challenging at times, but the stunning views of snow-capped peaks make it worthwhile. The Mt Cobbler peak offers breathtaking panoramic views and is known for its wildflowers.
The best time to hike the Mt Cobbler Walking Track Wabonga is from November to April when the weather is mild and the wildflowers are in full bloom. The trail is open year-round but not recommended for inexperienced hikers during winter.
To get to the trail, head to the Alpine National Park, approximately 270 km northeast of Melbourne. From Mansfield, take the Mount Buller Road to Mirimbah, then follow the Mount Stirling Road to the Circuit Road intersection. Look for the signpost for the Lake Cobbler Camping Area. Regular buses run from Melbourne to Mansfield, providing easy access to the park.
