North Kimberley Marine Park

The extraordinary seascape and Aboriginal culture of the 1,845,000 hectares North Kimberley Marine Park attracts tourists from around the globe.

Super sizing

North Kimberley is the largest marine park in Western Australia. It is seven times the size of Ningaloo Marine Park and the second largest State marine park in Australia.

Coast to coral

The coral reefs of the north Kimberley have the greatest diversity in Western Australia and are some of the most pristine and remarkable reefs in the world. The park surrounds more than 1000 islands and is home to wildlife such as dugongs, sea turtles and sawfish.

Hitting the highlights

At King George River, twin falls plunge over sandstone cliffs 100m high to create a breath-taking spectacle. Another highlight is Cape Londonderry, the northernmost point of Western Australia. The scenic Hunter and Roe rivers are great places to view large estuarine crocodiles. Catching a big barramundi is on most people’s bucket list, but please fish outside sanctuary zones.

Cultural significance

The Balanggarra, Wunambal Gaambera, Ngarinyin and Miriuwung Gajerrong people have cultural, spiritual and social connections to the north Kimberley sea country. North Kimberley Marine Park will be jointly managed with traditional owners, with agreement already reached with the Balanggarra traditional owners to jointly manage their sea country.

Enjoying the park safely

Estuarine crocodiles are present in the park, so in-water activities are not recommended. Please be crocwise during your visit.
