Description

Nullarbor National Park is a protected area in South Australia, located about 887 kilometres west of Adelaide.

It covers an area of 323.10 square kilometres and was founded in 1979. The park is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area, managed for purposes such as recreation and cultural heritage.

The park's terrain is flat and dominated by limestone, formed by marine fossils from the ancient seabed. It is bounded by the Western Australia - South Australian state border, the Nullarbor Regional Reserve, and the Nullarbor Wilderness Protection Area. The park is home to various habitats, including dunes, vegetation, and a network of karst caves and sinkholes. Wildlife in the park includes kangaroos, emus, echidnas, wallabies, and reptiles.

In 2013, the park's area was reduced due to the proclamation of the Nullarbor Wilderness Protection Area. Despite this, Nullarbor National Park remains a popular destination for adventure travellers seeking the vastness of the Australian outback, unique wildlife encounters, and exploration of the Nullarbor Plain.

In 1980, the park was listed on the Register of the National Estate, recognizing its significance as one of the world's most extensive limestone karst landscapes. It covers an area of about 200,000 square kilometres across the Nullarbor Plain and is considered a site of ecological and biological value. Today, the park continues to attract visitors with its geological formations, flora and fauna, and natural beauty.
