Description

Rangihoua Heritage Park is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the history of New Zealand.

Located in Te Tii, Northland, this park is the site of Aotearoa New Zealand's first planned European settlement. The park is a place where Maori and Europeans learned to live side by side, and visitors can travel back to a pivotal moment in New Zealand's history to the place where Maori oversaw the first permanent Pakeha settlement in Aotearoa.

Formally recognised by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga as a heritage area in 2007, the park officially opened in 2014 to commemorate 200 hundred years since the arrival of the first missionaries in New Zealand. The park is a 40-minute walk across farmland to the site of the first mission settlement in New Zealand, and is suitable for kids. The walk is easy and visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.

Visitors to Rangihoua Heritage Park can learn about the history of the park and the people who lived there through the various exhibits and displays. The park had been designed from scratch, with the aim of creating a living history experience that would allow visitors to step back in time and experience what life was like for the early settlers. Overall, Rangihoua Heritage Park is a fascinating destination that offers visitors a unique insight into the history of New Zealand.

The park is an excellent historical site and is definitely worth the drive. The road is gravel for part of the way but it is very well maintained and easy driving. The simple and peaceful surroundings make it a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of New Zealand. With its beautiful scenery, easy walking trails, and informative exhibits, it is a great place to spend a day exploring and learning about the country's rich cultural heritage.
