The tour is the only one of its kind in New Zealand and is operated by the Arnold family, who have been sharing this world-class attraction with visitors for over 30 years.The tour is suitable for all ages and abilities and is an all-weather activity, operating rain or shine. Wet weather gear is provided. The tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours, including the return trip from the tour office in Whataroa. The tour times are 9 am, 12 noon, and 3 pm, but times may vary, and minimum numbers apply, so bookings are recommended. The cost of the tour, including the Department of Conservation entry permit, is $75 per person, with a discounted rate of $75 for children aged 12 and under.During the tour, visitors will learn about the White Heron's breeding habits and observe the small, fragile colony in their natural habitat. The tour operates with a Department of Conservation concession, and entry into the Waitangiroto Nature Reserve is by permit only.
