This traditional slow-food restaurant started as a food truck and catering business, and in August 2018, it opened a container restaurant in downtown Christchurch.
Meet The Team
The restaurant's team consists of co-owners, Renee Blackburn and her chef husband, Cory Blackburn, and fellow chef, Chris Geary. They are passionate about traditional cooking and slow food, which complemented by their exceptional take on BBQ.
Menu
Smoke 'n' Barrel offers a diverse menu of slow-cooked meats that have been smoked in a big ol' barrel for several hours to achieve a unique, rich taste. Among their specialties are slow-smoked Canterbury lamb shoulder with harissa sauce, beef brisket with Smoke ‘n’ Barrel’s signature Texas BBQ sauce, and house-cured and smoked Akaroa salmon with lemon caper cream.

Smoke 'n' Barrel moved to its own location at 616 Ferry Road, Woolston, in March 2023. The restaurant boasts a cozy and comfortable environment, with greenery elements throughout the decor.

Situated in the suburb of Woolston, Smoke 'n' Barrel is easily accessible by car, bus, or on foot. It is a 12-minute drive from Christchurch City Centre, or a 20-minute bus ride on the route 535 towards Ferrymead. Smoke 'n' Barrel is also a stone's throw away from the Woolston Ferry and Ferrymead Heritage Park.
