Oxley Creek Common is a serene wetland located in Rocklea, approximately 7km from Brisbane's CBD.
Open to the public since 2003, it offers over 4km of walking tracks to destinations like Pelican Lagoon, Jabiru Swamp, and the Secret Forest.
Bird-watching enthusiasts will find Oxley Creek Common to be a great spot, as it is home to unique and rare bird species such as the Magpie Goose, Black-necked Stork, Brown Goshawk, and Latham's Snipe. Visitors have the opportunity to view these species in their natural habitat.
For those interested in walking, there are two easy paved trails to choose from. The Secret Forest Walk is a 4.6km easy-grade return trail that starts from the Red Shed and follows the primary walking path along Oxley Creek. The Pelican Island Walk is a 3.5km return trail that also starts from the Red Shed and passes Jabiru Swamp, where egrets like the Great Egret and the rare urban dwelling Jabiru can be spotted.
Visitors can also enjoy picnicking at Oxley Creek Common, as there are picnic amenities available for relaxation and meals.
