Painted Hills Via William Creek

Tourist attractions

William Creek, SA 5723

Description

The Painted Hills Via William Creek is a recently discovered section of the Breakaways country in the far north of South Australia.

Located on Anna Creek Station, the world's largest working cattle station, the Painted Hills is a rocky outcrop of large and small hills that emerge suddenly out of a flat, desert landscape. These hills are believed to be the result of 50 million years of climate change, with clay and iron-oxide formations covering an expanse of 20km wide and 10km long. Access to the Painted Hills is only by air due to its fragility and natural beauty, with air access tours available through Trevor Wright of Wrightsair. Wrightsair is the only scenic flight operator who can land at Anna Creek Painted Hills, offering visitors an amazing sight by air and the opportunity to walk amongst these spectacular colored hills. Landings with ground tour options are also available. The Painted Hills Via William Creek is a hidden gem that is well protected. Visitors should bring their own food, water, and other necessary items as there are no facilities or amenities available. The area is remote, and visitors should be prepared for the harsh desert environment. The Painted Hills Via William Creek is a must-visit destination for those who love nature and want to experience the beauty of the Australian outback.
