All main living areas are connected to the south-facing deck overlooking the dam, and to the north-facing honed concrete terrace that enjoys access to the northern sun and adjoining bushland.
The master bedroom and ancillary areas are to be found to the west of the living areas, with views over the vines and towards the distant hills and the sea beyond.
The distinctive ‘butterfly’ style roof profile responds to the need for access to the northern winter sun, while opening the residence up to the views to the south.
A rammed earth wall forms the spine to the residence and provides the thermal mass element to the bedrooms and ancillary areas.
Polished concrete to the main living and dining area provides a durable and beautiful visual connection both to the kitchen and the external northern terrace.
This home was designed to be appropriate to site and local climate, utlising passive thermal design principles.
The incisive combination of high ceilings, good natural ventilation and the polished concrete floor, which now acts as a heat sink, assists in providing a comfortable thermal environment for the occupants during the summer months.
