Description

Paroo-Darling National Park is a protected national park in New South Wales, consisting of two distinct regions in the outback.

The park has a rich history, including evidence of a long-standing indigenous presence and European exploration in the 19th century. It was formed through the acquisition of several properties by the Government of New South Wales.

The park's landscape features grey cracking clays, red sand hills, and wetlands along the Darling River floodplains. It is home to rare artesian mound springs and is considered an important area for biodiversity, particularly for waterbirds.

Conservation reserves like Paroo-Darling National Park are crucial for protecting biodiversity in arid regions of Australia. The park is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service in collaboration with the Paroo-Darling National Park Elders Council. Their focus is on controlling introduced species, maintaining appropriate fire regimes, and working with adjoining landholders for effective feral animal control.

Visitors can access the park via dry weather roads from the villages of White Cliffs or Wilcannia. The visitor center at White Cliffs provides up-to-date information, and camping is allowed at the Coach and Horses campground at the old Wilga Station.
